Government forces on Saturday evening launched a cordon-and-search operation on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Pantha Chowk in outskirt’s of Srinagar.


Official sources told news agency GNS that the CASO was launched after Government forces suspected presence of militants inside a famous educational institution, Delhi Public School (DPS) or any other building adjacent to it, soon after the militants carried attack on paramilitary CRPF convoy, killing an Assistant Sub Inspector and injuring a constable driver of the paramilitary forces.


The militants believed to be two to four in number were spotted after joint team of army, SOG and CRPF launched a massive search operation soon after the attack on paramilitary forces.


The joint team of forces fired few warning shots but there was no retaliation by the militants. when reports last came in, there was no exchange of firing. A senior police officer told GNS that staff in DPS have been evacuated. “We strongly believe presence of two to four militants inside the school,” the police officer said, adding that all exist points have sealed.


Pertinently, the militant organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba had claimed responsibility for the highway attack.


In wake of the siege and likelihood of gunfight , the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar has imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPc from Ram Munshibagh to Sempora with immediate effect.


Meanwhile, following the directionsd from the authorities, telecom companies barred high speed 3G/4G across Kashmir Valley.
